Platform Structural Monitoring Package SCADA System
The Site
The structural Monitoring Package is installed on the South Arne field development platform in the Danish sector for Brown & Root / Amerada Hess in 1998.
The Requirement
To supply a combined platform structural frequency wave monitoring.
The requirement of each sub-system are shown in the MMI (Man Machine Interface) SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) screen, which is shown overleaf. One of the main requirements of the system is to constantly log the data of a spreadsheet format for offline historical analysis and plotting.
The Solution
Structural Frequency Monitoring
The Structural monitoring system utilizes two bi-axial accelerometers, which produce signals to two signal converters. The signals generated are transmitted to the PLC where all the calculation and processing of data is performed and passed on to the SCADA system. The accelerometers and the signal converters are housed in an Eexd enclosure and mounted at appropriate fixing points on the platform.
A desktop PC is supplied to cater for the SCADA system software and to view the data format for analysis of a spreadsheet format, which will cater for both operations.
Wave Height Measurement
The wave height measurement is achieved by using a smart radar system (wave guide instrument) with a continuous output signal (RS-485) to the PLC PCM module, which will then be passed on to the SCADA system after calculations and processing the data.
The smart radar instrument is located at main deck of the platform. The SCADA system will display a clear information for wave data parameters and gap to water surface.
