Weatherford International has acquired the assets of Sicom, the world leading subsea communication and integration expert. This is a part of the Weatherford's Production Optimization business unit’s strategy to provide comprehensive oil and gas operation solutions for production control, management, automation and optimization.
The acquisition of SICOM provides Weatherford’s customers with advanced technology for subsea control systems. SICOM’s core business is providing an open communication system that allows all the different components of a subsea system such as control systems, downhole sensors, and seabed and wellhead equipment to communicate using industry standards. SICOM’s product lines include surface control and monitoring, communication systems using existing power line cables, and standalone control systems.
SICOM is located in Trondheim, Norway and is synonymous with state-of-the-art products and solutions for interfacing subsea/downhole instrumentation, communication and control. The company has invested heavily in building the right technology in a collaborative manner with various subsea companies and their technology is in early stage of commercialization. SICOM will continue to provide technology-based solutions and services to new and existing customers.
Rather than spending years developing this advanced technology, the acquisition allows us to quickly enhance our current and future subsea offerings. With our world-wide distribution and service infrastructure, Weatherford will also be able to accelerate SICOM’s technology acceptance in the marketplace. |
