Typical Real-Time Production Optimization Solution

The diagram below depicts typical eP solutions. eP provides the sensors and intelligent well site equipment for each component in the field. The software resides on a central NT server and collects the data in real time from the field equipment. Using a client server system makes all the needed data available from the field devices and manually entered information to the users. Using existing LAN and WAN technology allows the software to be used throughout the entire enterprise. Consequently, operators of the field can control well and facility activities, analyze production, and predict future results and failures using the various modules.

Why Choose eP for Real-Time Production Optimization Solutions

Experience and Products

Why should you choose eP to be your solution provider? The answer is that with eP you get the training, support, research and development, and manufacturing expertise all from one company. eP’s products and personnel are helping producers increase production and reduce operating expense by providing automation solutions for wells, facilities, and pipelines. Additionally, the information gathered can be analyzed to provide financial and performance analysis.

R&D Team

eP’s ever-growing research and development department is experienced and focused on customer needs. The manufacturing department currently has over 300 years collective experience and stays targeted on engineering, product development, oil and gas applications, and manufacturing.

Project Management

The project team has members with decades of experience in combining the right systems into the right solution for you. eP’s trainers offer rod pumping classes, well optimization classes, worldwide seminars displaying new software and hardware benefits, and direct involvement in global well diagnostics.

Global Support

The dedicated support team includes degreed petroleum engineers, and provides hardware and software support. The skilled technicians that troubleshoot and consult on existing applications are based in: North America, Great Britain, and the Middle East.

Hardware support includes all I/O, motherboard and application configurations. The software support includes dial-in access to live systems for diagnostics and troubleshooting and “hands on” involvement with project group on deployment of every installation.

All these teams work together to assure that your solution is engineered, manufactured, implemented, and supported to meet and exceed your needs and expectations.

Increased Production

The combination of intelligent hardware and software solutions ensures that each individual well in the field is operated efficiently.

Also, the solutions provide the ability to lower down time for the wells and compressors. The increase in efficiency and reduction in down time can lead to increased production.

Cost Reduction

The three fundamental costs in operating wells are electrical, workover and chemical costs. The intelligent well site equipment increases the run life of the well resulting in reduced workover costs. Also, electrical and chemical costs are reduced by optimization of the lift equipment.

eP Real-Time Production Optimization Solution in the Field

Some examples of how the technology can be combined to create production optimization solutions.

Rod Pumping

An East Texas operator converted his timers to eP’s Model 2000 rod pump controllers. This reduced the amount of time that the pumpers needed to stay in the field and significantly cut the electricity costs as well as the rod and tubing repairs. Over two years, the controllers reduced rod and tubing repair costs by 31% and electrical costs by 40%. This resulted in operating cost savings of approximately $50,000 per year.

Training/Consulting

eP’s trainer/consultant taught field personnel RPCs, surveillance/optimization software, pumping system design, ESP optimization, well testing equipment, rig crew operations, pump shop practices, and chemical treatment practices. Some of the actions resulted in immediate results while others will have long-term benefits. Deviated wells experienced an increase of 50 M3D net oil from changes put in place while changes to ESP well operations resulted in two wells increasing over 50 M3D each and two wells increasing 30 M3D net oil.

Software/Consulting

Several years have gone into delivering production gains through the implementation of optimization technology (ReO) interfaced to online systems. This has proven successful in Central and South Lake Maracaibo and is now being rolled out to all other production districts in the region. One aspect of this is the use of the ReO software as an off-line application. The operator’s production management team recognized the opportunity for quick gains in production through this approach and applied ReO to one of the area’s production platforms.

A comprehensive model of the wells and production network was built in one month with the help of an eP consultant. The result came within 3 months, when a production gain of 800 bopd was achieved solely through the application of the ReO gas lift optimization approach. This translated to an immediate ‘quick win’ of approximately $7 million per annum. Subsequent experience in further assets achieved gains between 2% and 7%.

Multiphase Metering

A major US oil company needed automated three-phase metering systems for satellite well testing in recently
developed oil fields located in West Africa. The company was looking for a compact, efficient, highly accurate, cost effective alternative to traditional metering systems or complicated nuclear multiphase meters.

The units were designed to meet the customers specific needs and some were configured with dual meters and to give accurate measurements over a wide flow range. The skid mounted flow computer monitors all signals, calculates oil/water/gas flow rates; controls system valves and offers several communication options.

Wellpad Monitoring

An oil field in Eastern Venezuela is arranged with pads of wells around multiphase pumping stations (MPP); each MPP collects the diluted crude oil from six to eight pads and pumps it to the operations center.

The system consists of a csLIFT™ host server, which gathers data from 93 eP VFDs, 26 competitor VFDs, 39 eP wellpad manager systems (WPMS), 11 competitor PLCs and 2 CS7X well test controllers. The whole system communicates via fiber optics.

The csLIFT host provides an in-office monitor and control of all the oil field to the users. The applications installed are csMonitor to gather data from all RTUs, csPCP to monitor and control all VFDs, and csWellTest to control and record the well tests.

Complex Control System

The West Akhen Platform Control System is installed on an offshore, unmanned production platform located in the Mediterranean Sea near Egypt, Africa. The electro-hydraulic control system is designed for automatic controlling and monitoring of critical operating functions of the production platform.

The platform control system operates in a Zone 2, Group IIA area. The system consists of a hydraulic control panel integrated with a CS7X controller. The control system monitors and controls all aspects of the platform operation including process shutdowns; emergency shutdowns; pressure, temperature, and corrosion measurement; AGA3 flow calculations; VFD motor control; valve control; operational status; flow measurement; hydraulic injection pump control; electric load shedding; wax inhibitor pump control; glycol injection pump control; and corrosion injection pump control.

Intelligent Wells

An operator for one of the largest field developments in the North Sea in the past decade, has selected and integrated solutions consisting of Weatherford’s optical permanent monitoring system and eP/EPS production analysis software. Weatherford’s optical production monitoring solution will incorporate pressure/temperature, multiphase flow meter, and distributed temperature system to provide the required level of data to support detailed analysis of each wells production performance. eP/EPS asset optimization software will provide well performance data interpretation and offline analysis for the field. Weatherford will support the deployment of the integrated system with a dedicated project engineering team to sustain well and platform production monitoring system design, planning, custom development, risk assessment, logistics, installation, technical support, commissioning, production analysis reporting, and maintenance.
