Objective:

This course is designed to explain the various functions that are available in theMatBal application for performing each stage of material balance analysis.

Course Description:

The course covers the theory behind the calculations used in the MatBal application, which includes the basic material balance equations and various reservoir drive mechanisms such as solution drive, gas cap drive, compaction and connate water expansion, water drive, etc.

Attendees will obtain hands-on experience using theMatBal application by building various example models. The example models cover many aspects of the MatBal application, including:

  1. How to build a model with strong water drive
  2. How to model reservoirs with different objectives to determine the size and strength of the aquifer
  3. How to perform history matching

Course Contents:

  • Model Building: Specify Well, Reservoir, Aquifer Data
  • Production Allocation: Allocate production to various reservoirs and wells
  • History Matching: Tune material balance equations using historical production data and using a non-linear regression solver
  • Simulation: Simulate the production using the history matched model
  • Relative Permeability Tuning: Using fractional flow modeling
  • Forecasting
